Costco considering Perrysburg site

Costco Wholesale Corp. is considering adding a store in Perrysburg, a company representative told the city's planning and zoning commission Thursday night.

Ted Johnson, a Costco project development director, said Costco is considering a site at the southeast corner of State Rt. 25 and Eckel Junction Rd. The site now contains a residential property, a horse barn, and open fields. It is zoned for commercial activity.

Mr. Johnson and Costco architectural consultant Risa Yuki wanted to get feedback from Perrysburg officials about the potential project.

The building would be just under 150,000 square feet and would be visible from U.S. 23/I-475. The store would be about the same size as a Costco store in the Westgate area of Toledo, which opened in 2007.

Brody Walters, Perrysburg's planning and zoning administrator, said Costco is interested in the site but has not made any commitment.

Costco is a membership-only warehouse club that sells a wide variety of merchandise, including groceries. Much of what it sells is packaged in bulk.

As of 2012, it was the second largest retailer in the United States, behind only Wal-Mart Stores Inc.
