Downtown store to emphasize healthy eating

Nutrition City slated for Adams St.

A recently renovated but currently vacant building in downtown Toledo will soon be home to a new business specializing in health shakes and nutritional supplements.

Jason Trzcinski recently signed a lease for a ground floor space at 625 Adams St. where he plans to open Nutrition City.

The shop will sell a variety of meal replacement shakes and nutritional supplements from Herbalife, a global nutrition company that uses independent distributors to sell its products.

“It’s just to provide an alternative to fast food,” Mr. Trzcinski said. “That’s the goal, get people healthier and active.”

Mr. Trzcinski said he’s been using the products for about a year and selling them part time for the last six months. He said he made the decision to move downtown based on what he sees as the beginning of a revival.

“Downtown seems to be making improvements,” he said. “I’ve talked to a few people and there’s a lot more to do, but we’ve gotta start somewhere. I thought it would be nice to bring some business downtown.”

Mr. Trzcinski said he believes there’s an untapped market of people who are interested in healthier dining choices.

Ryan Miller, a commercial real estate agent with the Reichle Klein Group, helped put the deal together. He said the building is owned by Toledo-based Man- chester Roofing. The firm bought and restored the historic building after a roof collapse several years ago.

Mr. Trzcinski said most of the renovation work is complete, though he plans to add a bar with seating to accommodate 12 to 16 people. Otherwise, he plans for a simple and industrial look.

He hopes to open by Labor Day.

“It’s like getting a shake at McDonald’s. The difference is this is a healthy shake that’s going to be your meal instead of some filler,” he said.

The store also will sell products geared toward people trying to lose weight or who are athletes.

Mr. Miller said a second tenant also recently has signed a lease for one of the building’s three ground-level suites. The tenant plans to open a bail bond business.
