Stores look forward to spring, plan new hires
Home, garden work upturn is expected
2/14/2014The piles of snow and low temperatures don't seem to be going away, but Home Depot is looking ahead to spring.
The Atlanta home improvement chain said Wednesday it is looking to hire 150 seasonal employees for its four Toledo-area stores this spring. The company plans to hire more than 80,000 temporary workers nationwide.
A company spokesman said that seasonal employment often turns into more permanent positions.
She said that over the last few years, more than half of seasonal workers have remained with the company.
Spring is the busiest season for the company as customers begin indoor and outdoor projects and yard work.

A spokesman for Lowe's said the company plans to announce seasonal hiring plans at a later date. Menards officials declined to comment on the company’s plans.
Locally, The Andersons said it will hold two job fairs next week to fill about 50 positions for its spring hiring.
The first job fair will be Wednesday from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. to 6 p.m. at the Maumee store. The second will be at the Toledo store on Thursday during the same hours.
A spokesman for The Andersons said most of the jobs are for its nursery and lawn and garden departments, but the company will also be filling spots in other departments.
