Grocery store interested in Erie Street Market

A national grocery store operator is among the companies interested in space at the city of Toledo-owned Erie Street Market, Mayor D. Michael Collins said Friday.

Officials from Lucky’s Market, a Boulder, Colo., chain, visited the near-downtown building last month.

The mayor said the city has had “initial conversations” with Lucky’s Market after he wrote to the company urging it to consider the Erie Street Market. The Warehouse District Association has for years tried to market the building to a grocery store, association member Richard Rideout said.

The Collins administration in a report last month said at least seven entities are interested in the building. The mostly empty building houses the Libbey Glass Factory Outlet store.

The building cost taxpayers $132,000 to operate last year, including utilities, risk-management insurance, garbage collection, and janitorial services. The building’s 2013 revenue was $116,523, representing the Libbey outlet’s rent.
