FedEx plans expansion in Perrysburg Township
Company spokesman says jobs likely to be created
5/12/2014FedEx Corp. Ground center in Perrysburg Township plans to expand its 607,364-square-foot facility with about 62,000 additional square feet, including 60 more loading doors.
David Westrick, FedEx Ground spokesman, said the expansion likely will create new jobs, though he does not know how many.
FedEx presented an informal site plan to the Perrysburg Township Zoning Commission Monday. Company officials will be at the commission meeting again next month to go over specifics of the plan before seeking county approval for the project.
Michael Brand, making the presentation to the commission, said that FedEx is also going to buy two parcels of land at Third Street and J Street to create additional parking space for trucks and to provide room to straighten out FedEx’s driveway. The project will create 340 more parking spots, he said.
Mr. Brand said FedEx needs wetland permits from the Ohio Environment Protection Agency to proceed. They hope to be ready for the project in mid-September.
The FedEx facility opened in July, 2009, and handles small packages. It cost $90 million to build and, at the time, employed about 450 people.
