1999–Maurice Greene and Inger Miller win the 200-meter dashes at the World Championships, giving the United States a sweep of the short sprints. Greene is the first sprinter to win the 100 and 200 at a major global meet since Carl Lewis swept both at the 1984 Olympics.
2007–Veronica Campbell of Jamaica is declared the winner in a photo finish over defending 100-meter world champion Lauryn Williams of the United States at the World Track and Field championships held in Osaka, Japan. In one of the closest finishes in championship history, Carmelita Jeter of the United States takes the bronze, one hundredth of a second behind the leading duo.
