Aaron Dean and Mattie Hanley received college scholarships from the Northwest Chapter of the Ohio Credit Union League after entering the credit union's essay contest. Aaron, first prize winner, won $1,000, and Mattie won $500. Both members of local credit unions, the two winners were presented certificates and their scholarship awards at a celebration held at a recent Toledo Mud Hens game.

The recipients of $500 scholarships from the Marie Schmalzried Scholarship Fund of the Toledo Schwaben Verein, an organization of the German-American Festival Society, are Lindsay Ash, Lourdes College; Rebecca Langenderfer, Ohio State University; Elizabeth Lawrence, Ohio State University, and Erica Schmalzried, Bowling Green State University.

Students in the Bowling Green State University College of Arts and Sciences who have received awards valued at $500 or more:

A James W. Strong Art Education tuition scholarship of $700, went to Tara Wurns of Delta. Nicole Messmore of Metamora, won a $7,000 Janet M. Shanklin Memorial scholarship, a $1,000 Frazier Reams Public Affairs undergraduate fellowship, and a $600 Charles A. Barrell scholarship.

Bethany Hausch of Maumee received a $900 Eliott Blinn scholarship. Krishna Mutgi of Sylvania received a $700 Jean Pasakarnis Buchanan scholarship and a $500 Waldo and Evelyn Steidtmann scholarship.

Toledo students at BGSU received the following scholarships: A $1,115 Robert G. and Carol C. Speck scholarship in journalism went to Holly Abrams. Eileen Devany received a $625 Dawson S. and Sylvia A. Patterson scholarship. Heidi Hafemann was awarded a $550 Dr. Suzanne K. Miller undergraduate research assistantship. Brian Tasma was awarded four years of tuition and fees through a John C. Jadel scholarship in physical science. Taylor Ward received a $600 Charles A. Barrell scholarship. Jesse Filbrun of Whitehouse received a $500 Joseph J. and Marie P. Schedel scholarship and a $850 T. Richard Fisher Biology scholarship.

The following Perrysburg residents received scholarships: Jennifer Bergner was awarded a $850 T. Richard Fisher biology scholarship and a $500 Joseph J. and Marie P. Schedel scholarship; Kelly Clarson received a $500 Charles Lakofsky art award, and Anum Riaz received a $4,000 Albert P. Bradie pre-medical scholarship.

Jennifer Graf of Tontogany was awarded a $750 Frank C. Ogg Memorial scholarship.
