•Aurora Project Inc. will host its 16th annual Golf Scrambles Aug. 21 at Stone Ridge Golf Club in Bowling Green. This year's event features breakfast, a buffet lunch, 18 holes of golf, a cart, and a silent auction. Registration begins at 8 a.m. with a shotgun start at 9. •The inaugural Corn City Idol talent competition seeks contestants for the event, which will be held during the Corn City Festival Aug. 22 and 23 in Deshler. Performers must be at least 12 years old and a Deshler resident. Performing groups must include one Deshler resident. A prize of $150 (plus a trophy) will be awarded to the first-place winner; $50 goes to the runner-up. The opening rounds of competition will be at 6 p.m. Aug. 22 at the gazebo in Deshler City Park, followed by a performance by Wally and the Beavs. The finals will be held at 4:30 p.m. Aug. 23, with a popular vote from the audience choosing the winner. •34th annual Miss Northwestern Ohio Scholarship Pageant, a preliminary to Miss Ohio and Miss America scholarship pageants, will be Nov. 14 in the Defiance Community Auditorium. The pageant committee is seeking contestants. Young women are eligible if they are between the ages of 17 and 24, are single and have never been married or pregnant, and live, work, or go to school in Ohio. The areas of competition are talent, interview, swimsuit, and evening wear. There are no entry fees. The program is affiliated with the Children's Miracle Network, and each contestant will be asked to obtain sponsors to contribute a total of $100 to the Children's Miracle Network.
