About 20 exhibit spaces remained available as of last week for the Sylvania Chamber of Commerce's annual, and free, "Showcase Sylvania" business exposition.

The show, which is March 27 in the Sylvania Sports and Exhibition Center at Tam O'Shanter, highlights local firms that reflect the area's business diversity and also includes energy-efficiency exhibits, children's activities, and the Taste of Sylvania food fair.

Last year, more than 4,000 people attended.

This year, 140 area businesses have booked space so far.

Entertainment from local schools and music and dance academies is featured, and most businesses will offer door prizes or other giveaways at the event which runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Local supermarkets, specialty foods merchants, and coffee shops will offer food and nutrition ideas at the Taste of Sylvania.

The Energy Fair will include demonstrations of products and services that boost energy efficiency and reduce utility bills.

The Sylvania Community Arts Commission Student Artfest 2010 is scheduled to be held this year next door at the Sylvania Senior Center.

It will feature artwork by students from grade school through high school.

Free parking is offered at Tam O'Shanter, Olander Park, Southview High School, and Boulevard Church of Christ.

On the event's eve, the chamber of commerce will host its Showcase Sylvania preview party, during which the chamber will give awards to local businesses and nonprofit organizations.
