A botched attempt to steal a Confederate locomotive will be detailed during a presentation hosted by the Historical Society of Grand Rapids.

Andrews’ Raiders: the Great Locomotive Chase, will be presented with slides by historian Fred Folger at 2 p.m. May 1 at the Town Hall, 23564 Front St.

Despite being a botched attempt to steal a Confederate’s locomotive in 1862, James Andrews and his raiding party have written themselves in Civil War history for their audacity and bravery, the historical society noted.

The 150th anniversary of the war’s outbreak and the events leading up to it have increased interest in the conflict.
