Perrysburg pool makes splash over weekend

More than 700 show; district passes sell out

Blame it on the scorching 90-degree heat.

Blame it on a celebratory mood because school is out for the summer.

Whatever the reason, more than 700 people went to the Perrysburg city pool during its inaugural weekend.

"It was a good flow, a good amount on a hot day," said Wendy Baldwin, the pool's aquatic director, after the pool officially opened for the season.

City officials could not provide attendance numbers for the pool's previous opening weekends.

"Everything went incredibly well," said Jon Eckel, the city's public-service director. "If it's hot and sunny, it'll be packed."

Besides a strong opening weekend, the pool is also off to a good start selling passes.

The city has sold out of its 300 school district passes, the first time that's happened in the last three years, Mr. Eckel said.

Starting July 18, the city plans to sell another 300 passes, which are good for anybody living in Perrysburg City Schools district, such as those in Perrysburg or Middleton townships outside the Perrysburg city limits.

The passes, which are discounted because the pool season will be half over, will cost $70 for the first family member and $10 for each additional person on the family pass. Passes are sold at the Perrysburg YMCA.

Earlier this spring, city council voted to freeze prices at the same rate as the summer of 2011.

The city-run pool, located at Municipal Park, is open from 1 to 8:30 p.m. every day.
