Council panel to weigh changes to sign code
1/8/2013Perrysburg City Council’s planning and zoning committee is to consider amendments to the city sign code at its meeting at 5 p.m. Jan. 16.
Proposed changes include a 10-year “sunset” date for nonconforming signs. Councilman Timothy McCarthy said the city would notify property owners about signs that needed to be brought up to code and would develop a tracking system to send reminders every one or two years.
He said this would give businesses time to include the cost of updating or replacing signs into their budgets while bringing all city properties into compliance.
Other amendments to the sign code include: removal of a limit on temporary signs and registration of signs in residential areas; a special-use approval process for landmark features and signs, and design guidelines that would serve as a baseline for disapproval of a sign that may violate elementary standards, said zoning administrator Thomas King.
