Waterville zoning change requested for Rite Aid pharmacy

A hearing is scheduled next month for zoning changes on two Waterville properties that would allow a pharmacy to be built at State Rt. 64 and Waterville-Monclova Road.

Waterville City Council had its first reading Monday night of ordinances to rezone a vacant lot on the intersection’s southwest corner and adjoining property at 8239 Waterville-Swanton Rd. now occupied by a church to the C-1 commercial district.

The rezoning was recommended by the Plan Commission. Council's second reading is April 22, while a third reading and a public hearing are scheduled for May 13. The lot is zoned for agricultural use, while the Life Pointe Church property is zoned C-2 downtown commercial. City administrator James Bagdonas said the intersection’s other three corners are zoned C-1, so the proposed re-zoning is consistent.

While Rite Aid proposes to build a store on the corner, Mr. Bagdonas said, the rezoning would apply to the site's future use regardless of whether that proposal is pursued.
