Taft names 3 to Board of Regents

COLUMBUS - Gov. Bob Taft yesterday made three appointments to the state Board of Regents to replace members whose terms expired or who resigned.

The nine-member board plans and coordinates higher-education efforts in Ohio and prepares the state's spending for colleges and universities.

The new members are:

  • Bruce R. Beeghly of Struthers. He is president of Altronic, Inc., a designer and manufacturer of electronic products. Mr. Beeghly, who received a bachelor of science degree from the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif., replaces Gerald Gordon, whose term expired.

  • Edward J. Rigaud of Cincinnati. He is president of the National Underground Railroad Freedom Center and a retired Procter & Gamble executive. He has degrees from Xavier University in New Orleans and the University of Cincinnati. He replaces Floyd Nickerson, who resigned.

  • Donna M. Alvarado of Granville. She is founder and managing director of Aguila International, a consulting firm. She replaces Tahlman Krumm, whose term expired.

    Members of the Board of Regents serve nine-year terms and are compensated for expenses only.
