Strickland appoints 2 to Ohio R&D panel

COLUMBUS - Gov. Ted Strickland has appointed University of Toledo President Lloyd Jacobs and Plastic Technologies' chief operating officer, Thomas Brady, to the Third Frontier Advisory Board.

The panel administers bond-fueled programs designed to expand high-tech research and development in Ohio.

Dr. Jacobs, who also serves as professor for the department of surgery at UT's College of Medicine, previously served as chief operating officer for the University of Michigan Health System and senior associate dean for that university's medical school.

He earned his bachelor's degree from Miami University in 1965 and his medical degree from Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine in 1969.

Mr. Brady of Holland previously worked in a variety of capacities for Owens-Illinois from 1971 to 1985 before joining Plastic Technologies. He received bachelor's and master's degrees from Dartmouth College and a doctorate in plastic materials engineering from the University of Michigan.

The governor also appointed Steven Cotner of Perrysburg to the Ohio Private Investigation and Security Services Commission. The panel advises the state director of public safety on issues related to private investigation and security services.

Mr. Cotner has been co-chief operating officer of Corporate Intelligence Consultants since 1977. He is also a member of the American Society for Industrial Security and Investigation Services.

A former board member of the Fort Meigs YMCA, he earned a bachelor's degree from Bowling Green State University.
