HAMTRAMCK, Mich. A fire has broken out at a chemical plant in the Detroit enclave of Hamtramck, sending flames and black smoke hundreds of feet into the air.
A Hamtramck fire department employee says the fire broke out about 11:30 a.m. Thursday. The employee who didn t identify himself says Detroit and Highland Park fire departments have been called in to aid his city s firefighters.
The fire is at Sterling Services, a company involved in the biofuel business.
There s no report so far of any injuries. WDIV-TV says part of the nearby area is being evacuated.
James McBroom of the Detroit fire department tells WXYZ-TV that his department was called about 11:30 a.m. by Hamtramck to assist and is sending an engine and ladder truck.
