COLUMBUS, Ohio — A longtime landmark for fans of Ohio State football is destined for the wrecking ball.
The Columbus city council has approved a 10-year tax break for developers who plan to demolish the Buckeye Hall of Fame Cafe and replace it with a 134-room hotel.
The restaurant south of the Ohio State campus is often a big gathering spot on game days. Earlier, the building housed the Jai Lai (hy ly), a restaurant frequented by legendary Ohio State coach Woody Hayes.
The Buckeye Hall of Fame Cafe fell into receivership in February when it was behind more than $160,000 on its rent. The attorney for the receiver has said the restaurant expects to find a new location.
