New water warning at Ohio's largest inland lake
6/22/2010ST. MARYS, Ohio — State regulators are warning folks in western Ohio to stay away from algae in Ohio's largest inland lake.
It's the second straight year that warning signs have been posted around Grand Lake St. Marys.
This time Department of Natural Resources officials say it's a different type of algae being found and they're not sure if it's dangerous to swimmers and boaters.
Warning signs went up at the lake last year after the discovery of a type of algae more common in Lake Erie. Contaminants such as fertilizer and manure from nearby farms contributed to the earlier algae outbreak.
Fewer people last year visited the lake, which sits between Toledo and Dayton.
