MEDINA, Ohio — Authorities in northeast Ohio say a 2-year-old girl found in a hot car has died, and the 3-year-old sister who was with her is hospitalized.
The Medina County Sheriff's office says the girls were reported missing by their grandfather Thursday evening. Chief Deputy Kenneth Baca says during a search of the York Township neighborhood, a resident noticed a door not completely closed on her car. The children were inside.
The younger girl was pronounced dead at a hospital. Baca says her sister was listed in critical condition at MetroHealth Medical Center in Cleveland.
Baca says it was apparent intense heat inside the car took a toll on the children. He says it's not clear how long they were in the vehicle. The sheriff's office is still investigating.
