CASEVILLE, Mich. — Authorities in Michigan’s Thumb say they stopped a 7-year-old boy who’d taken his step-father’s car on a 20-mile drive to see his biological father.

The Bay City Times says officers got the boy to pull the Pontiac Sunfire over near Caseville, about 110 miles north of Detroit.

Authorities say he told the officers he was going to his father’s house in Filion. It’s about 13 miles north of his mother’s home in Sheridan Township.

Police started looking for the car about 10:15 a.m. Monday after someone called about its youthful driver.

The boy had trouble opening the door when he finally stopped the car.

Huron County Sheriff Kelly Hanson says the boy’s mother had worked the night shift and was unaware the boy and car were gone.
