MONROE — A petition to recall the Republican majority leader of the Michigan Senate has been rejected by a Monroe County board.

The Board of Canvassers met Wednesday and said the petition language is unclear. Jeff Andring can't start collecting signatures against Sen. Randy Richardville of Monroe until the petition is approved.

Monroe County Clerk Sharon Lemasters says the petition was rejected because at least one section was vague. Another part of the petition refers to Richardville's support for a new U.S.-Canada bridge in Detroit.

Lemasters says the 3-0 decision can be appealed to circuit court or the petition for a recall election can be changed and submitted again.
