DETROIT — Officials have identified a 23-year-old parolee as the man killed during a high-speed chase and shootout that left two Detroit police officers wounded.

An autopsy today shows that Matthew R. Joseph died of multiple gunshot wounds.

Joseph was paroled in October after serving time on armed robbery and weapons charges.

Police say he was a suspect in a killing last Thursday and was shot to death Tuesday evening after he fired on officers who tried to stop the vehicle he was in on the city's west side.

One officer remained in critical condition today at a Detroit hospital. The other officer has been treated and released.

Their names haven't been released. They're part of a joint federal, state and local anti-crime task force.
