Medina's schools chief has contract rescinded

MEDINA, Ohio — A city school district in northern Ohio has rescinded a superintendent’s contract because officials say the process violated the state’s Sunshine Laws.

The board of education in Medina, south of Cleveland, voted Tuesday to rescind Superintendent Randy Stepp’s contract because it isn’t legally valid. Board President Karla Robinson said the board failed to properly publicize the contract on the meeting agenda before voting on it Jan. 7.

Stepp said he would go to court to enforce the contract, which included an $83,000 signing bonus.

The Medina Gazette reports that the board approved the contract but did not publicize the new contract until Feb. 28 — after rumors of the signing bonus began circulating.

Robinson said the board was advised by attorneys to rescind it or possibly face a lawsuit.
