COLUMBUS  — A judge has sentenced a central Ohio man to three years in prison for being under the influence of prescription drugs when he caused a crash that killed a 5-year-old boy last year.

The judge in Columbus also suspended 32-year-old William Hill’s driver’s license for life after he pleaded guilty Monday to aggravated vehicular homicide in the Dec. 5 crash.

The Columbus Dispatch reports that Hill ran a red light in his pickup truck and hit a car with two children belted into safety seats in the back seat. The 5-year-old boy died at a hospital, and a 3-year-old girl survived.

A prosecutor said Hill was using five psychiatric medications to treat a traumatic brain injury he had suffered in a previous traffic crash.
