Man dies when van goes into Lake Erie in Cleveland

CLEVELAND  — Authorities have identified the man who died when the minivan he was driving went over a cliff and into Lake Erie at a Cleveland park.

The medical examiner’s office identified the victim as 47-year-old Richard Arthur of Lakewood.

The Cleveland Fire Department reported the van in the water at about 8:30 p.m. Monday at Edgewater Park west of downtown.

Witnesses told media outlets that the vehicle was traveling at a high rate of speed when it went between two trees and over the cliff. It was pulled from the water at about 11 p.m.
