DAYTON, Ohio — Authorities in the Dayton area are investigating what they believe is a dog-fighting operation.

It started when Montgomery County officials pulled five dogs with severe injuries from several homes in the area earlier this week. Two of the dogs were hurt so badly they didn’t make it.

Mark Kumpf, director of the Montgomery County Animal Resource Center, told The Dayton Daily News that the dogs have injuries consistent with being forced to fight, including punctures and lacerations to their faces, muzzles and legs.

There was no word about possible suspects Thursday. Kumpf said investigators were meeting with prosecutors to discuss possible charges.
