CHILLICOTHE, Ohio — The State Highway Patrol is investigating whether an Ohio dispatcher properly responded when police called to report a reckless driver shortly before a fatal crash.

A Chillicothe attorney was killed July 4 when a sport utility vehicle struck her vehicle on state Route 50. Charges are pending against the SUV driver, who had a high blood alcohol content at the time.

Before the crash, a Chillicothe police officer had alerted the patrol about an SUV speeding out of the city.

A patrol spokesman says the dispatcher who took the call did not send a trooper in response or forward the call to another agency for possible follow-up.

She says officials also are investigating an allegation that the employee violated policy and didn’t correctly log the call.
