Central Ohio man pleads guilty to robbing 8 banks; allegedly brandished gun in 3 of them

COLUMBUS — A central Ohio man has pleaded guilty to federal charges that accuse him of robbing eight banks.

U.S. Attorney Carter Stewart in Columbus says 54-year-old Kenneth J. Horsley entered his plea on Thursday.

The Columbus man, who authorities dubbed the “Bad Beard Bandit,” has been charged with five counts of bank robbery and three counts of armed bank robbery.

His attorney, Alan Pfeuffer, says prosecutors and Horsley have agreed on a 10-year prison sentence, but the judge overseen the case is yet to decide whether to accept the agreement.

Prosecutors say Horsley allegedly entered the banks and demanded money from employees. They say he allegedly brandished a handgun during three robberies and threated to shoot anyone who followed him.

Seven robberies happened in the Columbus area and one in Beavercreek.
