Ohio governor, first lady to take personal trip to Europe to celebrate her birthday

COLUMBUS — Ohio Gov. John Kasich and first lady Karen Kasich will be traveling to Europe to celebrate her birthday this week.

The governor’s spokesman Rob Nichols says the couple will leave today and return to Ohio Oct. 16.

Nichols says Karen Kasich’s 50th birthday is later this year.

Nichols says the governor will not conduct any business while on the trip.

Mr. and Mrs. Kasich married in 1997 and are parents of twin daughters. The girls will not join them on the trip.

Karen Kasich had a nearly two-decade career in health care, public relations and marketing. She is now an advocate for children’s wellness and women’s heart health programs.
