Partially paralyzed Ohio woman to get $2.3 million settlement in medical negligence lawsuit

CINCINNATI — The University of Cincinnati has agreed to pay $2.3 million to a southwestern Ohio woman who says she was left partially paralyzed after doctors failed to properly diagnose her.

The settlement announced today does not constitute an admission of liability by the university.

The agreement ends a six-year legal battle between the university and Cynthia Adae of Midland, about 40 miles northeast of Cincinnati.

The then-50-year-old Adae sued the university in October 2007. She says doctors at Clinton Memorial Hospital failed to diagnose a sudden condition after she went in and had blood tests.

The university operates a residency program at the hospital.

The university denied the allegations in court documents, saying Adae’s condition was the result of “intervening and superseding causes.”
