Utilities: 235K without power in Mich. after storm

DETROIT — Utilities in Michigan say about 235,000 homes and businesses are without power following a damaging Midwestern storm.

DTE Energy Co., CMS Energy Corp.’s Consumers Energy unit and other utilities say more than 620,000 Michigan customers have lost service since the storms hit Sunday. At least two people in Michigan died in the storm.

Today , DTE said about 110,000 southeastern Michigan customers remained without power out of about 302,000 affected. Consumers Energy says about 107,500 of its customers were without power out of about 286,000 affected.

Indiana Michigan Power says about 17,600 of its customers remained without service today out of about 42,000 affected.

In Michigan’s Upper Peninsula, The Mining Journal of Marquette says about 1,000 Upper Peninsula Power Co. customers lost power in the storm.
