Ex-Tigers manager taking part in Detroit parade

DETROIT — Jim Leyland may no longer be manager of the Detroit Tigers, but he has picked up a new position in the city.

He’s the grand marshal of the Thanksgiving Day parade.

Leyland stepped down as Tigers manager after this season. He says it’s an honor to be part of the parade, though tells WDIV-TV he “certainly would have liked” a World Series parade down Woodward Avenue as well.

Known as “America’s Thanksgiving Parade,” it boasts of being one of the nation’s oldest and most celebrated parades and second in size only to the Macy’s Thanksgiving Parade in New York City.

Snow showers, slick roads and chilly temperatures are accompanying the festivities, which have included about two dozen floats and a performance by singer Ruben Studdard.
