ATHENS, Ohio  — A professor at Ohio University has pleaded not guilty to charges accusing him of having child pornography on his laptop computer.

An Athens County judge ruled Thursday that 41-year-old Amol Kharabe can remain free on a signature bond. He’s on leave from his $121,160-a-year job as an assistant professor in the university’s business college.

An indictment includes nine counts of pandering obscenity involving a minor, as well as single counts of pandering obscenity, illegal use of a minor in nudity-oriented material or performance, and possessing criminal tools.

The indictment does not indicate whether it was his laptop or one that belonged to the university.

The investigation began when an Athens police detective learned of child-pornography activity connected to an Internet-provider address at the university.
