FREMONT — The Ohio Attorney General’s Office will review circumstances surrounding electronic files deleted from city computers.
Matthew Donahue, chief of the agency’s special prosecutions section, accepted a request from Fremont Law Director James Melle to review the incident, which Mr. Melle said dates back to a previous city administration.
Mr. Melle said he served as a city councilman during the incident, and he reached out to the attorney general’s office because of concerns about a conflict of interest. He was elected prosecuting attorney and law director in November, 2011.
The issue involves emails deleted on city computers, said Mr. Melle, who refused to provide details.
Mr. Donahue, in a Thursday letter to Mr. Melle, indicated the request deals with “deletion of computer files from several city of Fremont computers.”
The attorney general’s office will review the information and determine if additional investigation is needed, said spokesman Jill Del Greco.
“Since no one is charged with anything, we aren’t saying who the allegations are against,” she said.
