DETROIT  — A new music school is coming to Detroit.

The Detroit Institute of Music Education has been formed with the help of $3 million from a private equity firm.

A spokeswoman for Farmington Hills-based Beringea tells MLive.com more details are to be announced today at a media open house hosted by Quicken Loans founder and Chairman Dan Gilbert.

The school will be led by Kevin Nixon, Sarah Clayman and Bruce Dickinson, who successfully launched a similar school in the United Kingdom. The Detroit Institute of Music Education will have classes in guitar, bass, vocals, drums, songwriting and music entrepreneurship.

Clayman tells the Detroit Free Press the “feeling and enthusiasm in Detroit has” blown the partners away.

A public open house is planned for Friday at the school’s temporary admissions space.
