State officials met privately with Lucas County Board of Elections members and administrators for almost three hours Thursday to discuss allegations that included the board and administrators misusing taxpayer dollars, failing to follow proper election procedures, and showing favoritism toward Democrats.

Former Ohio Secretary of State Jennifer Brunner and former Assistant Secretary of State Scott Borgemenke were among several officials sent by Ohio Secretary of State Jon Husted this week to investigate the complaints filed by Jon Stainbrook, a Republican member of the Board of Elections.

“We will now report back to the secretary of state and discuss the personnel issues,” Ms. Brunner said after the meeting was over. She declined further comment.

State officials ordered the Lucas County Board of Elections to discuss the procedures used to hire and fire employees and run the elections office.
