AKRON — At least 12 students have been arrested in northeast Ohio after a fight broke out at a high school.

A spokesman for Akron Public Schools says no one was seriously injured and no weapons were involved in the fight at Kenmore High School.

Spokesman Mark Williamson says possibly 30 students were involved in the melee, which started at about 9:15 a.m. today. He said an on-duty police officer assigned to the school called for additional responders, and pepper spray was used to quell the situation.

The school was on lockdown until 11 a.m., when administrators decided to cancel class for the rest of the day. Williamson said the ventilation system needed to be cleared of the pepper spray.

Akron police did not immediately return calls. Additional details were not available.
