House Speaker John Boehner has three Republican opponents on the ballot May 6 and some outside money coming in aimed against him.
MIDDLETOWN, Ohio — U.S. House Speaker John Boehner’s primary races are often about as challenging as a tap-in putt. However, the Ohio Republican and avid golfer faces stepped-up competition back home this time.
With three GOP opponents and some outside money aimed against him, Boehner’s campaign has run two rounds of TV ads amid other voter outreach efforts. Boehner last week worked his 8th House District, making five stops over three days.
His campaign spokesman says Boehner takes every race seriously.
Miami University political scientist Bryan Marshall says factors such as a national tea party group pumping money into the race and opponents painting Boehner as the face of a dysfunctional Washington make this primary more intriguing than past ones.
But he says there’s little doubt Boehner will still win.
