DETROIT  — Four men accused of attacking a suburban motorist who accidentally struck a 10-year-old boy on Detroit’s east side are expected to face trial in August.

Wonzey Saffold, Latrez Cummings, Bruce Wimbush Jr. and James Davis were arraigned today in Wayne County Circuit Court on charges of assault with intent to murder. Not guilty pleas were entered on their behalf.

Saffold and Cummings are scheduled to stand trial Aug. 18, followed by Wimbush and Davis on Aug. 25.

A judge last week ordered the men — ages 17 to 30 — to stand trial in the brutal April 2 beating of 54-year-old Steve Utash, after he hit the boy with his vehicle.

A 16-year-old boy faces a June trial in juvenile court on ethnic intimidation and assault charges.

Utash remains hospitalized. The 10-year-old boy suffered a leg injury.
