COLUMBUS — More than 10,000 graduates are receiving degrees at Ohio State University in what the school says it is the second largest commencement in the school’s history.

Diplomas are being awarded to 10,200 graduates at the single ceremony today at the university. Officials say the school’s largest graduation was in June 2012. Ohio State awarded more than 10,600 degrees at that commencement.

The main speaker for this spring’s commencement is Chris Matthews, the host of political talk show “Hardball” on MSNBC. He will be awarded an honorary doctorate in communications.

Barry Bloom of Cambridge, Massachusetts, will receive an honorary doctorate in science. The pioneer in the global health field has worked in areas including infectious diseases, vaccines and health policy.

Ohio State has more than 63,000 students.
