Boardman man killed, 5 others injured in 3-vehicle crash in Port Clinton
6/8/2014PORT CLINTON — One man died and five other people were injured - two seriously - in a three-vehicle crash late Saturday night involving a pickup truck and two motorcycles.
One of the motorcycle operators, Thomas Lamb, 53, of Boardman, Ohio, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred at 10:45 p.m. on State Rt. 53 north of State Rt.2 in Ottawa County's Portage Township.
His wife, Angela Lamb, 49, who was riding on his motorcycle, was flown to Toledo Hospital to be treated for what the Ohio Highway Patrol post in Sandusky characterized in a news release as a serious injury, as was Susie Gonzalez, 35, of Port Clinton, who drove the pickup truck. A spokesman for the hospital said Sunday that there was no record of either being admitted.
John Rice, 43, of Toronto, Ohio, who operated the other motorcycle, and his passenger, Amy Rice 42, also of Toronto, Ohio, were taken to Magruder Hospital in Port Clinton for what the Highway Patrol described as non-life threatening injuries, as was Miguel Popoca, 37, of Port Clinton, a passenger in the truck operated by Ms. Gonzalez. A spokesman for that hospital said none were admitted there, either.
The Highway Patrol said Ms. Gonzalez, who was northbound on State Rt. 53, turned left in front of the two motorcycles, which were heading south. The motorcycle operated by Mr. Lamb slammed into the right side of the pickup truck, ejecting him and his wife. The Rice motorcycle then collided with Mr. Lamb's, ejecting both of those occupants.
Seatbelts were not used by either of the truck's occupants. All four people on the two motorcycles were wearing helmets, the agency said.
The Associated Press reported that three other motorcyclists were killed in Ohio on Saturday in separate crashes in Columbus, resulting in the deaths of two 27-year-olds and a 25-year-old.
