Operators plan to open new center for outpatient services
7/1/2014NELSONVILLE, Ohio — Operators of a hospital in southeast Ohio say they will close the facility and open one for outpatient services.
OhioHealth said Monday it will cease inpatient services at Doctors Hospital Nelsonville before the end of the year, but continue to provide 24-hour emergency services, endoscopy services, outpatient X-ray and other outpatient services. It will immediately limit inpatient capacity.
Operators plan to build a new facility to focus solely on outpatient care in Nelsonville. Construction for the new health care center is expected to begin next year and take between 18 to 24 months to complete.
Once the new center opens, the current Doctors Hospital Nelsonville building will close.
The facility’s chief operating officer says in a statement that only 20 percent of Nelsonville residents use the hospital for inpatient care.
