LANSING, Mich. — Michigan is getting more than $1.2 million from the Land and Water Conservation Fund for outdoor recreation and conservation efforts.

The funding was announced today by U.S. Interior Secretary Sally Jewell as part of $43 million being distributed nationwide.

Offshore oil and gas royalties support the Land and Water Conservation Fund. Over 50 years, it has funded more than 42,000 state and local parks, playgrounds, urban wildlife refuges, greenways, trails and open spaces. But it’s to expire next year unless reauthorized by Congress.
