ELYRIA, Ohio  — Police in northeast Ohio say nine people have been arrested in connection with an incident last week that left a 24-year-old man shot to death.

Elyria police say Davion Strupe was shot in the back July 1 as he tried to flee a home after being dragged outside by three people.

On Wednesday police announced the arrest of one man on charges that include murder, kidnapping and aggravated rioting. Eight others also were arrested and charged with aggravated rioting.

A police spokesman said people charged with aggravated riot did not necessarily participate in the assault but did nothing to stop it, and even encouraged it. He said officers are confident they’ve got everyone who was in the area when Strupe was shot.
