S. Indiana sheriff charged in prostitution probe

NEW ALBANY, Ind. — A southern Indiana sheriff who authorities say gave a prostitute a deputy’s badge and uniform so she could get hotel discounts, then paid her for a sex act, has been charged with lying to FBI agents investigating the case.

A federal grand jury indictment unsealed today charged Clark County Sheriff Daniel N. Rodden with providing false information and ordering the woman to dispose of the credentials and uniform.

The indictment alleges Rodden paid the woman $300 for the sex act.

Rodden has denied the charges. He has served as sheriff since 2007.

Rodden is the second Indiana law enforcement official recently to face charges related to the use of prostitutes. Boone County Sheriff Ken Campbell resigned in June amid an investigation into his relationship with a prostitute.
