Former Wisconsin official named to regional EPA

Cathy Stepp, a former Wisconsin state senator and former Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources cabinet secretary, has been named to head the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s Upper Midwest regional office that oversees environmental programs in Ohio, Michigan, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Indiana, and Illinois.

Ms. Stepp most recently was a principal deputy regional administrator for the U.S. EPA’s Region 7 office that serves Kansas, Iowa, Missouri, Nebraska, and nine tribal nations. She will take over as regional administrator of the agency’s Region 5 office in Chicago that oversees six states and many Great Lakes programs.

She was secretary of the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources from 2011 to 2017, and was a Wisconsin state senator from 2003 to 2007.
