NEW YORK — Stocks are ending slightly higher on Wall Street as the market shrugs off a midday slump.

The Dow Jones industrial average rose 69 points, or 0.5 percent, to 15,615 points today.

The Standard & Poor’s 500 index rose five points, or 0.3 percent, to 1,761. The Nasdaq composite edged up two points, less than 0.1 percent, to 3,922.

The Nasdaq was hit by more technical problems. The exchange shut down one of its markets for trading stock options. Regular stock trading wasn’t affected.

The Container Store doubled on its first day of trading.

Body Central, parent company of the Body Shop, plunged after the clothing and accessories retailer reported a third-quarter loss that was worse than analysts were expecting.

Volume was heavier than usual.
