WTVG-TV, Channel 13, weekend meteorologist Geoff Cornish is leaving the station to become chief meteorologist for WICU and WSEE in Erie, Pa.

WTVG, WICU, and WSEE are all Lilly/SJL-owned stations.

A Pennsylvania native and graduate of Penn State University, Cornish joined Channel 13 in 2012. Previously he worked at TV affiliates in Lexington, Ken., and Joplin, Mo.

“He has been a tremendous addition to 13abc’s First Warning storm team,” WTVG Executive News Director Brian Trauring said in a statement. “In addition to his daily forecasts, he has anchored emergency weather coverage and special reports, including the memorable Minutes to Live when he was ‘rescued’ from icy waters with the planned help of the Coast Guard.

“We’re delighted his positive attitude, skill, and leadership abilities will continue to be part of our company for years to come.”

Trauring said there has been no decision about who will replace Cornish.
