Snyder called Mich.'s 'comeback kid' in Super Bowl ad; it credits him for 'overdue' decisions

LANSING, Mich. — Self-described nerd Rick Snyder is called the ‘comeback kid’ in a TV ad scheduled to air during the Super Bowl.

The Republican governor’s one-minute ad opens with him scuba diving up from under water. It cost at least $500,000 to air on Michigan Fox affiliates Sunday.

The ad credits Snyder for cutting business taxes, adding 220,000 private-sector jobs and making tough, overdue decisions.

Snyder burst onto the political scene in 2010 with a Super Bowl ad. His re-election campaign unofficially began in the fall and formally starts with a six-city tour Monday and Tuesday.

Snyder’s likely Democratic opponent, Mark Schauer, dubs the re-election launch a “rebranding tour.” He says the ad doesn’t remind voters of how Snyder offset his business tax cut with higher taxes on many individuals.
