CUPERTINO, Calif. — Apple Inc.’s plans for a large new campus in Silicon Valley that its late CEO, Steve Jobs, likened to a spaceship are moving forward.

The planning commission in Cupertino, where Apple is based, endorsed the estimated $5 billion project this week. The full City Council is expected to vote on the plan on Oct. 15.

It calls for nearly 3.5 million square feet of new office space, a 1,000-seat auditorium, and a fitness center on 176 acres.
